Passport Multimedia Music Demo Version 3.3 Date: 9-18-92
Software Requirements:
This demo requires Microsoft Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions or
Windows 3.1.
Hardware Requirements: A Multimedia PC with minimum configuration as listed.
* 16 MHz 80386 or 80386SX based PC with at least 2 MB of RAM
* 30 MB or larger Hard Disk
* An Adlib, SoundBlaster or MediaVision Pro Audio Spectrum card or...
* An Optional MPU-401 MIDI card with outboard MT32 sound module or...
* Any of the MIDI interfaces above with an outboard General MIDI Synth.
* ..or.. An Optional LAPC card. (MIDI interface w/ sound module in one)
The songs that are included with this demo will playback and sound good
on an Adlib, SoundBlaster or MediaVision style FM sound card, but if you
have a MIDI out port and an outboard MT32 or CM64 sound module or an LAPC
card or a General MIDI Synthesizer from Roland or some other manufacturer,
then you can make the songs sound great with full professional arrangements.
All music playback occurs via the MIDI Mapper and is therefore
dependant on the MIDI Mapper being setup correctly for your system. A
MIDIMAP.CFG file that contains setups for some of the configurations
described above is provided with the Multimedia Extensions and with Windows
3.1. If you have a MIDI out port and some other outboard sound modules that
you want to use, you would have to create your own patch map and MIDI Mapper
setup in order to make the songs sound right on your system. IMPORTANT: If
the MIDI Mapper is incorrectly setup, or if the current MIDI Mapper setup
references a device or driver that is not installed, then MIDI playback will
sound wrong or will not occur at all. The driver names in the MIDI Mapper
setups must exactly match the names of the drivers that are actually
installed. Sometimes different versions of the same driver have slightly
different names. When this occurs, simply re-select the correct driver names
in the MIDI Mapper setups.
Installation:
A simple Windows Setup program is included on these disks that will
copy all the necessary files to a drive and directory that you specify.
From the DOS prompt, insert disk #1 into a floppy drive and type...
WIN A:SETUP <and Press Enter> ( or... WIN B:SETUP ).
After installation is complete, you should run the MIDI Mapper from
the Windows Control Panel and make sure that the MIDI Mapper setup is
correct for your system.
Operation:
The demo begins with the Jukebox Screen. Pressing any button on the
Jukebox will play the indicated song. When the song is done playing, the
Jukebox will automatically advance to the next song until the "Stop the
Jukebox" button is reached. You can stop playback any time by pressing the
"Stop the Jukebox" button. The other buttons on the bottom of the screen
allow you to display information about Passport and Passport products and
to run additional demos.
The "Pro/Trax Demo" button will run a 2 minute "slide show" style demo
about Master Tracks Pro and Trax, with an accompanying MIDI soundtrack. If
you press any key during the slide show you will be returned to the Jukebox
at the next page turn. Pressing the <Esc> key or clicking on the Exit
Button at any time will quit the demo completely.
The "Run Pro" and "Run Trax" buttons allow you to check out full
functioning demos of these products. If you press either of these two
buttons while a song is playing on the Jukebox then the currently playing
song will be automatically loaded into Master Tracks Pro or Trax and played.
The full functioning demos of Master Tracks Pro and Trax will not Save or
Export files and will timeout after one minute of no user activity and
return you to the Jukebox screen.
